About Sam

Sam Naef is a physics and maths tutor based between London and Brighton who teaches GCSE, A-Level, IB, university and adult learners online.

Hi, I’m Sam. I love teaching people of all ages, and I make sure the fundamental concepts are truly understood, because that’s what gets top marks. Here’s the short version of how I got here:

  • Entrepreneur for 15 years. Founder of 8Billionminds, a free live-learning platform, and The Climate App.
  • Has taught sciences and maths for over 15 years, to many levels, while travelling the world.
  • BSc Physics, University of Sussex.
  • Master’s in Space Studies, International Space University.
  • Has worked at Airbus and NASA, where he led a space mission to search for life on Enceladus, one of Saturn’s moons.
  • Winner of several entrepreneurship awards, including one for a new spacecraft propulsion system.
  • Several years of teaching and performing improv comedy.

The improv helps more than you’d think. A lot of teaching is reading the room, and explaining the same idea three different ways until one of them clicks.

How do online lessons work?

Lessons run live over video through 8Billionminds. You can book from anywhere in the UK, or from abroad.

Which exam boards do you cover?

AQA, OCR and Edexcel for GCSE and A-Level, and the IB. I teach the concepts behind the specification, then practise them on exam-style questions.

What levels do you teach?

GCSE, A-Level, IB, university and adult learners.

Do you teach adults?

Yes. Adult learners are welcome in the sciences, maths, piano, guitar and improv comedy.

Can you help with university physics or maths?

Yes. I hold a physics degree from the University of Sussex and a space studies master’s, and I teach university-level physics and maths.

Who is improv comedy for?

Anyone who wants more confidence, faster thinking or better communication, whether that’s for the stage, interviews or presentations. No experience needed.
